Renewing Certification: Recertification can be earned at anytime during the three years following your course. Options include the Bridge (WAFA to WFR), Wilderness Advanced First Aid, or the Open Recertification course.

Course Schedule: See schedule.

All WMAI certifications, including Anaphylaxis* and CPR* certifications, expire three years from the last day of the month of certification (e.g., certified: 2017-03-10; expire: 2020-03-31). There is no grace period.

All successful graduates will be notified 6 and 3 months before their pending expiration via email to the address we were given at course registration.  If you change your email address, please contact the office so that we can update our records.

*Some jurisdictions limit these certifications to 1 or 2 years before requiring a recertification.

WFR:  WMA offers a variety of options for WMA and non-WMA graduates to earn a WMA WFR certification via recertification. WFR recertification candidates must have passed an eligible course. To be eligible, the course should have been a wilderness-based first aid training course that was at least 64 hours long and completed within 3 years of the proposed recertification option. Most but not all WFRs are eligible.

WEMT: Only WMA graduates can recertify the wilderness portion of their WMA WEMT in any of these options. To be eligible, a candidate must hold a current WMA WEMT certification as well a current EMS certificate at the EMT/Canadian EMR or equivalent level or above. A separate WEMT exam will be administered. It is important for these candidates to notify the sponsor of their intention at the time of registration.

All recertifications include some pre-course work. We suggest registering at least 2 weeks before the course to allow sufficient time to finish the pre-course work. After registering, the course host will send registrants a course ID number and password for logging into our website and accessing these materials.

Successful candidates receive a WMA certification. We do not issue letters of successful completion.
